Brick Making

Yes, you read that correctly! We took some time today to get play with some wonderful Oklahoma clay and straw. Why? Because we wanted to experience a taste of what the Israelites went through as slaves in Egypt. They made brick after brick after brick for Pharoah. It was terribly oppressive. Did God care? Yes! Was He aware of their longings to be free? Yes! God had a plan for the Israelites just as He has plans for us. Sometimes God allows us to go through tough times. Do we always know the "whys"? Certainly not. However, God's Word tells us over and over and over again that God is Sovereign and God is in control. He does care and He is with us no matter what.
After our bricks dry, we will take them home and place them somewhere special as a reminder that God will be with us through every joy and sorrow, high and low in our life. He loves us and is shaping our character to be more like Him. Keeping our eyes on Him and our hearts "listening" to His voice is so important! Our class is learning so much as we study Exodus. Thank you, God, for your Word and all that is reveals to us about your immense love for us! Amen.

Newspaper Towers

Today we were introduced to our school year verse: "The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10. To help us begin thinking about the significance of a tower, we created our own towers from newspapers. Our class divided into groups and had 10 minutes to complete their tower. I enjoyed watching them function as teams and work toward a common goal. After displaying our models, we took some time to praise God as we sang "Strong Tower" by Kutless.
