Science is definitely hands on in our classroom. We recently planted some lima bean seeds. Those seeds were soaked in water for 24 hours first, placed in dirt in a clear cup, watered and place in two very different environments---darkness and light. We wrote our hypotheses regarding how light and absence of light would effect our plants. We are now recording our observations and will make a display for Grandparents Day.
