Ode To The Last Day of School

It was the last day of school
with many a tear,
We definitely missed not having Riley there.
So many memories and laughs to recall
we probably could fill a classroom wall.
Out flowed our blessings to one another,
rich and heart-felt words were said one for the other.
I will miss all of you without a doubt,
and look forward to seeing you out and about.
I treasure each one, your generous gifts, and prayers,
and I look forward to frequent visits in your fifth grade year.

Love You!
Mrs. Anderson

Which Food Contain Starch?

Our final unit of study in science is the digestive system. We are discovering how intricately God has designed our bodies to digest food and then use the nutrients for benefiting our bodies. We have been amazed at the functions various organs have in our digestive system. Today we wanted to see what foods have starch in them. We took iodine and spread on several items. If the food turned black, it contained starch but it remained the yellow color of the iodine, it didn't contain starch. We first wrote our predictions of what contained starch or no starch in a chart in our manual. Then we tested each item.

As you can see, we tested cracker, chips, bread, Cheerios, pasta, potatoes, apple, cheese and carrots. The first five items turned black immediately but the apple and cheese did not. The carrot appeared to have a small amount of starch in it.

Not exactly appetizing, but definitely interesting!!!!

Fourth Grade Chapel

Fourth Grade had the honor of performing for the final elementary chapel for this school year.

Our play was taken from Matthew 25:1-13 where Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins. Five were wise and five were foolish. The wise took the oil for their lamps but the foolish ones didn't bring any. When the bridegroom came, the foolish virgins were out buying oil for their lamps and the missed the opportunity to enter into the wedding banquet. When they finally got back with their oil, the door was shut and the bridegroom would not let them in.

This parable is meant to remind us of the importance of being watchful, ready and waiting for the Lord's return. It is our personal responsibility to have a relationship with Jesus and to be focused on the return of Christ as we live out our lives here on earth.

Singing a song of praise to the Lord.

Reading Matthew 25:1-13 to the audience.

Enjoying the wedding banquet

Realizing that the bridesmaids missed their opportunity

Celebrating the wedding.

Proclaiming that we must let our lights shine brightly for Jesus and be ready for his return.

Clapping for our great bride and groom!

Don't we look pleased with ourselves!
Miles and miles of smiles!

Great job, Fourth Grade! Mrs. Leadford prayed a precious blessing over this wonderful group. We will miss them all very much but we know God has planned each step of their future and it is perfect in every way!

Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse

What a gorgeous day to set off for Stillwater, Oklahoma and the one-room schoolhouse experience in 1899.Teacher, Miss Anna is giving us our first instructions for the day.
What a great looking class! We couldn't wait to get inside the schoolhouse and find our desks.

Writing on slate boards
It didn't take long to observe all the differences between this classroom and our own back at OCS.

Miss Anna showed us the many forms of discipline used back in 1899.

Jessica wasn't too eager to watch Josh receive his spanking.

Noses on the board for talking....

The expression on Brandon's face says it all.

Working hard using pen and ink
Reading from the McGuffy reader and then it was lunch and recess.

Playing "Annie, Annie, Over" was the favorite. Teams were on either side of the schoolhouse throwing a ball over the roof.

Afternoon activities a science experiments and a spelling bee. Our three finalists and our winner! Taylor was proud to receive a certificate from Miss Anna.

All too soon, it was time to head back to Edmond, OCS, and 2010! Good bye Pleasant Valley and thanks for a giving us a glimpse into the past.
